Overhead powerline strikes are one of the leading causes of fatal workplace accidents in Australia. Where work is being carried out near overhead power lines, WHS regulations and Safe Work Australia guidelines require that overhead powerline hazards are clearly signed to alert plant operators, vehicle drivers, and workers to the risk of contact.
Industro supplies overhead powerline signs to construction companies, earthmoving operators, agricultural businesses, local councils, and any organisation operating plant or vehicles in proximity to overhead electrical infrastructure.
When overhead powerline signs are required
- Construction sites with overhead powerlines within or adjacent to the work area
- Agricultural properties with overhead lines crossing paddocks or access routes
- Council and infrastructure work near existing powerline infrastructure
- Demolition sites where lines have not been relocated or isolated
- Any area where vehicles or plant with boom, mast, or tipper function operate near lines
Safe approach distances
Australian standards set minimum safe approach distances for unqualified persons and plant near overhead power lines. These distances vary by voltage and are published by state electrical safety regulators. Your overhead powerline signage should reference the applicable exclusion zone to ensure workers and plant operators understand the required clearance.
Industro's overhead powerline signs are available with standard safe approach distance information included. Custom signs with voltage-specific or site-specific safe approach distances are available on request.
Why buy from Industro
We stock overhead powerline signs in formats suited to both temporary site installation and permanent fixed mounting. Reflective options are available for areas with low-light or night operations. Stock items ship same day from our Australian warehouse.
What safe approach distance applies to overhead powerlines at my site?
Safe approach distances depend on the voltage of the line. Your state electrical safety regulator publishes the applicable distances. As a general rule, unqualified persons and plant must not approach within 3 metres of lines up to 132kV without a permit and the involvement of the network operator.
Do I need an overhead powerline sign even if the lines are on the property boundary?
Yes. If your work activities, including the operation of plant, cranes, or tippers, could bring workers or equipment within the exclusion zone of a line on or near the property boundary, signage is required. Contact your state electrical safety regulator if you are unsure of your obligations.
